Just a quick Fossil of the Week post. Above we see isolated columnals (stem units) of the crinoid Isocrinus nicoleti (Desor, 1845) found in the Co-Op Creek Member of the Carmel Formation (Middle Jurassic), Kane County, southern Utah. Jul 3, 2017 · My understanding of crinoid vs blastoid fossils is that with crinoids the columnals are generally more durable than the calyx. With blastoids it's the other way around with the calyx being more durable than the bits of stem.
