Nest uses the AC voltage difference between R and C so normally you measure with a multi-meter with one probe on each. When heat is running Nest connects the Rh and W1 terminals. This should not affect voltage of R or C unless something is miswired.I just bought a Nest Learning Thermostat from Costco today to replace my Honeywell T40, which was working fine. After installing the Nest, I'm seeing E74 errors, not sure what the problem is. This is a newly built house, so not an age related failure. Do you have any ideas? Before Install.
