Had reports of kings on the hill and figured to work it north past wind point until we hit some. Ran a fairly deep spread, as the down temp was about 53 degrees down 60 in 90fow.Wisconsin. We managed 5 whites, 2 short eyes (once again losing a decent one boatside), and hooked what I presume were big pike as they burned a bunch of line off and cut off the crankbaits. I was using 20 lb mono leaders. Report for 5/17/23. Fished from downstream of 10 mile creek into north end of Petenwell. Ended with 39 shorts, 4 legals, 8 whiteys, a snot rocket, carp and couple of sheeps. Morning bite was good. Plastics out fished minnows early with a pretty good jigging cadence and aggressive bites.
Fish in the weeds. Little Perch easy on crawlers. Small northern and small smallies in weeds and just on edge, shallow in 5’ or less. One night fishing a shoreline for musky produced nothing on topwater. Still had several more on that were lost in a boat of teenagers and fun seeing some action. Launched on the west side by black wolf and hit a couple reefs. Fished 9’ to 15’ depths. Dead stick, drop shot and slip bobbers. Crawlers, red worms and minnows. 6 perch (best was 12.75”) crappie and of course some freshwater drum. Drop shot with red worms produced a bit better than the rest I think.Best fishing was straight out from Log Cabin where the milfoil mat had settled to the bottom. We got 2 Walleyes one 17", tons of fat large Northers from 25-30 inches, Large mouths, small mouths and a striper. Everything seemed to work well but lindy's and swim baits worked for the Walleyes.
