Take a piece of 3/8"x 2'' flat bar and cut a piece that will fit in where the rod rises above the tubing. Grind the flat bar to fit. Tack the rod in place on the tubing, then insert the flat bar and tack in place. Go back and weld the rod to the boom and weld the flat bar to the boom and rod.
