There's nothing saying that these XRL mods are absolutely necessary. For the most part, they aren't that expensive. One thing that people get confused about is the "power" issue. You're not gaining any more power. It helps to have an aftermarket tank as the stocker is apparently made of thicker plastic. I re-shaped mine using a $12 heat gun from Harbor Freight and a wooden hammer handle.
