Johnny Carson, born in Iowa on this day in history, Oct. 23, 1925, went on to become the iconic and Emmy Award-winning host of "The Tonight Show." Here's his story.It was after him that the city of Davenport took its name. Zebulon Pike. Two expeditions sent out for the purpose of exploration deserve mention in connection with the early history of Iowa. The first was the Lewis and Clark Expedition, sent out by President Thomas Jefferson, and starting from St. Louis, in 1804.
