Dec 6, 2021. #1. I have a Stihl MS170 that is very hard to start when it hasn’t been running. It takes about 15-20 pulls on full choke to get it to hit. Once it hits, it will start, idle, and run fine. It will restart since it is warm and run fine. I have also tried to start with no choke and it will not run.MS170 Chainsaw (almost new) wont start. I need some help before I give up and just send it into the shop. I have a nearly new (maybe ran once or twice...it was my uncle's but he died shortly after purchasing). It has not run for a few years, and I can't get it to start. It looks nearly new. MS170 is 2 years old, suddenly developed a bogging out problem in the middle of a cut. Muffler screen is clean. Spark plug and chain are new. Bar nose sprocket turns easily. I've replaced the carburetor, fuel line, fuel filter, air filter, and spark plug. I'm pretty sure I'm getting a spark. Checked the arrestor and it's clean.
