Bladesinger/Bladesong reward you for wearing light armor, but light armor wrecks a lot of monk features. Either be a straight Monk, or take Diviner for Portents then go back to Monk. With Portents, at the end of every long rest, roll 2 d20's and write down the results. You can supply these anytime anyone you can see would roll a d20.

Bladesinging itself I like to perceive as more of a mental focus state, the mechanics are good buffs but the idea of a wizard focusing on both mastery of magical and martial means to achieve something that would be normally hard to do as a wizard shows there experience, there commitment and dedication to the dance/state.
The downfall of Bladesingers is the "save" stuff and auto damage. However, there are magic items, feats and spells that can help with that. Most "save" things are spells - which can be countered with Counterspell. Later on the level 14 ability to use spell slots to reduce damage will help as well.
