Although she was a key figure in printmaking and in the founding of art therapy, Huntoon’s work is largely unknown outside the Midwest.

Clenece Louise Roberts Hills moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 1958 to attend the University of Kansas. She received both her bachelor's and masters from KU and proceeded to teach in the Lawrence public schools for the next several decades, retiring in 2000 but coming back to substitute from 2004-2007 and teach part-time from 2007-2010 again at South Junior High School.
