This seismic gap is bounded by two seismically active regions: the Hot Springs area to the north and the Trifurcation area to the south. The observed high strain rates (Johnson et al., 1994) and the absence of seismicity suggest that the Anza section is locked and can potentially host a magnitude 6.5+ earthquake (Sanders & Kanamori, 1984).
