The basic problem is that you have square port heads with round port headers so you are starting with a mismatch between the the two. In a situation like this you need to use the header gasket port shape that will provide the most surface seal and least intrusion in to the exhaust flow.

A 305 of that vintage would have 450 casting heads and a 460776, 777, or 778 block. I just scrapped one that was in a 79 Camaro. My new springs are rated at 110lbs at 1.710" and 305lbs at .500 lift.I bought the proper valve spring height micrometer but when I went to do my first valve I found that I needed four .060" shims and one .030" shim to get to the installed 1.710 valve height.on a 327 w/76cc, you'd need a heck of a dome to get the comp over 9:1. Such a piston would shrould the valves badly, reduce flow and VE, and probably be prone to pinging. you'd be way better off with a 64cc head and a flat top or 1/8" dome piston.
