Dawnbreaker of smiting is better for Stam builds the Knock down is very powerful and most classes can't remove the DOT only stamplar and Magplar can reliably remove the DOT.Not a lot of magic builds runs Purge and with dark cloak broken NB can really break the DOr either .So most classes will have to deal with the powerful DOr plus the power upfront damage.The Dawnbreaker explosion damages Serana's health, so she must be an undead. So the rune ax must also damage vampires, undead Npc and Skeletons. Whether you take the sword or the ax is a matter of opinion. The sword is faster and still has fire damage to normal NPC's.
